Draft Trees and Development Supplementary Planning Document (SPD)

About the Trees and Development Supplementary Planning Document (SPD)

Trees are an invaluable asset both visually and environmentally. They provide greenery and shade, support biodiversity and improve air quality. It is therefore vital that they are protected on or near development sites. This Draft Trees and Development SPD has been produced to update and replace the existing Trees and Development SPD which was adopted in 2010.

The SPD sets out the Council’s requirements in relation to any proposed development with trees on or near the site. It includes guidance/recommendations on how to consider existing trees at the design stage and successfully incorporate them into a development. It also provides guidance on new tree planting. Once adopted the SPD will be capable of being a material consideration in determining planning applications.

We want to hear from our communities, businesses, developers and other stakeholders about your views on the content of this draft document. All representations will be considered before we adopt the SPD.

The Council is consulting on the Draft SPD for eight weeks, from 14th November 2022 to 11:59PM on 9 January 2023.
